“education in which results supersede learning”

Spot on. I wish I could clap twice. The educational system doesn’t need to improve or adapt; it needs a complete reform. Rip everything out and build again from the ground up. Concentrate on stimulating children with real knowledge in a whole array of areas. Teach them about the world, about life, about space, about real history etc. Cater to individuals, nurture talent, encourage aspirations. And don’t pressure them into university. It’s right for some kids but not for others. Too many waste four years accumulating insane amounts of debt and studying some subject they realise they don’t like, just because that’s what they were “supposed” to do after high school.

Like it or not, children are the future, ergo the answer to that mythical ‘better world’. If, indeed, we want that (and who doesn’t?) it’s up to us to reroute the plank they’re forced to walk.
